There are millions of apps on Google Play, the Android app store. My favorites are in a list, right here.

  1. Fing (Domotz Ltd.)
    • A powerful network scanner
    • Able to scan local networks
    • Can ping, traceroute, and scan services by entering an IP address or a domain
    • If you have the $99 Fingbox, you can turn off WiFi for select people
  2. Action Launcher (Action Launcher)
    • An Android Oreo imitation
    • This launcher has Samsung’s Edge Bar for apps, and a menu on the left for all your apps.
    • The one downside is: swipe up from anywhere but the dock and the settings menu opens.
    • Most features require Plus ($4.99, in-app purchase)
  3. Google App (Google Inc.)
    • Google Now on all devices, accessible through the Google app.
    • Google Assistant (through the app)
  4. Google Maps (Google Inc.)
    • Find my Friends feature called “Location Sharing”
      • Share your location with friends and family for unlimited, one hour, or custom time.
  5. APK Extractor (meher)
    • Ability to extract APKs of apps to
      /sdcard/ExtractedAPKS/
  6. Droid Automation (wakdev) / MacroDroid (ArloSoft)
    • Automate anything on your Android device
    • MacroDroid (5 macros, upgrade price is $2.99 [in-app purchase])
    • Droid Automation Pro (unlimited macros, limited features, upgrade price is $3.49 [seperate app])
    • Both have paid version
  7. My Device (3K Developers)
    • Get all the possible information about your device, including OS.
      • If you’re running something like Fire OS (Amazon), it will look deeper and get the Android version, not the Fire OS version
  8. ES File Explorer (ES Global)
    • An easy-to-use file manager for Android
    • Connect with cloud services like Google Drive (unsupported due to Google OAuth2 restriction), OneDrive, FTP/SFTP, Box, SugarSync, Amazon S3, Yandex, MegaCloud, Baidu NetDisk, and MediaFire.
    • Plus version is $2.99
      • Ad-free
      • More customization options
      • More themes
    • Our opinion: Get the free version!
